Nokia N8 Shootout ------------------------------------------ 12MP 4:3 vs 9MP 16:9 vs 4.5MP 16:6 Panorama

I did a quick comparison using different formats to take pictures with the N8 and in particular I wanted to play with the new Nokia Panorama app that I downloaded for free from the Ovi store.  The first photo is a standard 4:3 in 12MP resolution.  The second photo is a 16:9 in 9MP resolution.  The third photo is a 16:6 in 4.5MP resolution using the Nokia Panorama app.  You can click on each photo to open the full picture.

The new Nokia Panorama app is available for free from the Ovi Store and is very easy to use.  To start you push the camera trigger and the GUI then tells you when to rotate and also by how much to rotate.  Then whenever you want to stop rotating you push the camera trigger again to stop the picture sequence.  It is up to you how many photos you want to take in the sequence and this will determine how wide angle the shot appears.  The app then does an amazing job of stitching the photos together.

Overall I am quite pleased with the Nokia Panorama app.  One big disappointment though is that when using the Nokia Panorama app there is no way to set the scene mode.  For example in the third picture above my phone was using the flash and there was no way I could override that.  If Nokia could allow the flexibility to choose the scene mode then this app would be truly spectacular.
